Obesity has very real and life threatening health risks attached

Being just two stones (4.6 kg.) overweight doubles the risk of a heart attack and greatly increases the likelihood of certain cancers developing. Carrying too much weight puts additional stress on joints, and can cause disabling orthopaedic conditions. Obesity shortens your life expectancy by, on average, nine years. High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, strokes, gallstones, gout and Alzheimer's disease have all been attributed to, or linked with, being overweight. Obesity is one of the greatest public health challenges facing our society, and has major cost implications, the burdens of which will be shared by everyone.

‘Calories’ (kcal) are a measure of energy content

If we consume too much energy, more than we burn up through biological activity and physical exertion, some of it will be stored as fat.

‘Basal Metabolic Rate’ describes the amount of energy necessary to nourish the body
The government recommends 2500 calories for a man and 2000 for a woman as a ‘Recommended Daily Allowance’. However, this is a generalisation, as BMR is dependent on height, weight, age, fitness and amount of activity. Many dieticians consider the government figures to be unspecific and too high for many people. Taking in more energy than ones personal BMR is likely to cause weight gain.

We store fat as a survival mechanism
The human body has evolved to include complex biological survival mechanisms. During natural subsistence living there is not a regular supply of food throughout the year. Like all other mammals, humans have the capability to store excess energy, eaten during times of plenty, as fat deposits to provide fuel during times of hardship. The problem today is that every day can be a day of plenty and energy-rich food is always readily available – without any physical effort being necessary in obtaining it. Therefore a mechanism that is meant to help us survive can cause serious health problems by making us obese.

Our bodies do not give up the fat easily
Because the human body stores fat as an emergency supply of fuel, to potentially keep us alive if food runs out, it does not give it up without a fight. This is why we can gain weight easily and rapidly, but losing it can be more of a struggle. The human body will only begin to break into its precious emergency reserves under certain specific conditions and at a regulated rate. These conditions are fully optimised by Squeezy Athletic, so that the body utilises its own fat as a supply of energy in the most efficient and rapid manner – all whilst avoiding the negative starvation conditions normally necessary to prompt the utilisation of stored fat for energy.

We naturally crave foods with high energy values
This is another human survival mechanism. We are primarily attracted to foods that provide the greatest amount of energy, such as sugar, fat and carbohydrates – because in the natural world of subsistence survival for which the human body has evolved, these foods are uncommon, hard won and highly valuable. This is why we choose greasy meat, wrapped in bread or pastry and accompanied by fried potatoes, taken with a sweet drink and followed by a dessert, as a comforting treat. The human body is not designed to operate on large quantities of energy-rich food, and will store the excess as fat. Squeezy Athletic is sweet and wholesome to satisfy the body’s need for nourishment. It is fortified with all the vitamins and minerals to maintain good health, protects muscles from degradation, yet has a low energy value so that the body’s fat stores are called upon as fuel, and are therefore reduced.
